2014 Top 5 – #4: #847 – New Guardians of the Galaxy Trailer
This year’s fourth most popular post had to do with one of this year’s biggest movies. I first wrote about Guardians of the Galaxy back in July of 2012. I had been excited for GOTG for a long time and it definitely didn’t disappoint. The popularity of this post shows that others were also excited for Star-Lord and his team of misfits.
After a few busy weeks I’m taking a couple days off this week. Our summer kicks off on Friday so I’m looking forward to a couple days of rest and relaxation.
Since I didn’t have to go to work yesterday morning, I was able to constantly refresh the Guardians of the Galaxy Facebook page. The newest trailer premiered yesterday and, because of my fast refresh finger, I was able to see it less than a minute after it went live.
Check out the trailer below.
My excitement for Guardians of the Galaxy is no secret. I am more excited for Guardians than for any other movie that has been or will be released this year. Below are some screenshots from the trailer along with some thoughts.
Chris Pratt is one of the reasons I’m most excited for Guardians of the Galaxy. As Andy Dwyer, he is probably my favorite part about Parks and Recreation. He also got totally ripped for this role, which led to one of my favorite lines from the most recent season of Parks and Rec. Andy said that he lost a bunch of weight because he stopped drinking beer and that he was probably drinking too much beer.
Glenn Close is a tremendously talented actress; I think it’s awesome that she’s appearing in Marvel’s weirdest movie to date. Close plays the head of the Nova Corps, Marvel’s intergalactic police force. I love that director James Gunn and Marvel are fully embracing all the oddities and weirdness of the Guardians of the Galaxy comic.
In the comics the Guardians work from their home base Knowhere. Knowhere is a lot like Deep Space Nine or Babylon 5, a giant station home to different aliens and governments. I’m pretty sure that’s Nowhere in the picture above, especially because the text immediately following it says, “Start Somewhere.”
RONAN THE ACCUSER!!! I think Marvel has confirmed that Thanos will make an appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy. He isn’t the main villain, though; Ronan the Accuser will fill that role. Lee Pace, my favorite pie maker from Pushing Daisies, plays Ronan. I don’t know much about Ronan or his villainous ways, so I’m looking forward to seeing him on screen.
Apparently Nebula and Gamora are going to get in quite the tussle. Again, I don’t know that much about Nebula; she’s another of the villains in Guardians and Karen Gillan, Amy Pond herself, will portray her. Even though I don’t know much about Nebula, I hope that she turns out to be a hero in the end, mostly because I love Amy Pond so much.
I knew that the Hulk was going to be the best part about The Avengers. I was initially most excited for Rocket Raccoon, but my excitement for Groot is growing. It might end up as a toss up between who is the break out CGI hero, but these better looks at Groot and hearing his voice have made me a bigger fan of his. I’ve never really liked Vin Diesel as an actor, but Groot seems like the role his monotonous, gravelly voice was meant to play.
And then there is Rocket Raccoon. It still boggles my mind that Rocket is going to make it onto the big screen before Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is easily DC’s third most popular hero, and we’ll see an anthropomorphized Raccoon before Diana, the Amazonian princess. Of all the weirdness in Guardians of the Galaxy a talking raccoon with a large arsenal of large guns might be the weirdest.
I am counting down the days until Guardians of the Galaxy. Not only will August 1 mark the release of Guardians of the Galaxy, but it will also mark the end of our ministry summer. I’m looking forward to seeing Guardians numerous times when I have some time off in August.
What are your thoughts about the new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy?
