#588 – Reader Feedback

Content Diagram

I originally started this blog because I love Jesus and I love nerdy things. I believe there are innumerable intersections between Christian culture and nerd culture. When we acknowledge those intersections and spend some time thinking about them, I believe they can help draw us closer to God. God is speaking to us through the culture around us; we just have to be willing to listen.

To that end I haven’t strayed far from writing about Christian and nerdy topics. However, I was speaking with my friend and fellow blogger, Ron, and he encouraged me to think through this blog and its content. While I have focused on Christian and nerdy topics, there are times when I have left the beaten path and written posts about my personal life and what I was experiencing at the time.

So, as you can see from the Venn diagram above, I feel like this blog touches on three different areas:

As a Christian nerd, personally I would love to get some feedback. I would love to hear from you about what you enjoy reading and whether or not the personal content has any value. This blog isn’t my personal diary and I want to stay focused on being The Christian Nerd. However, as we have developed our little community here, I have felt compelled to share more about my personal life: my joys and my struggles. When preaching I try to be appropriately honest and vulnerable with the congregation. I have attempted to apply that same standard here, being appropriately honest and vulnerable with you, my readers. As of yet, no one has complained, but I thought I’d ask anyway.

I believe the best posts are the ones that hit the center of the Venn diagram. If I can write a post that addresses an aspect of nerd culture, elicits thoughts about our Christian life and shows how that affects me personally, I feel like I’ve done a good job as a writer, as a blogger and as someone whom you’ve invited into your life. I feel like I’ve hit that sweet spot in a few different posts, most recently in #581 – The Girl Who Waited.

But maybe you don’t like the personal content and just want more ways that Solomon is like Tony Stark and Risa is like Sodom and Gomorrah. So, whether you’re a first-time visitor or a long-time reader, I would love to hear from you below in the comments. We’ve been on this journey together for 588 posts and want to see us go for another 588 more and beyond.

What do you like or dislike about the Christian, nerdy and personal content on The Christian Nerd?

  1. Your blog, your rules! I will be checking in regardless. I do most enjoy the explicitly nerdy posts, but I do think our Christian faith, being an incarnational faith, demands that we really share of ourselves, to some degree or other, even in our blogging. Doesn’t mean we bare our souls for the cyberworld to see all the time, but I wouldn’t stress so much about the mix of topics – you’ve got a great blog, and I would say, relax, and just keep doing what you’re doing!

  2. For what it’s worth, I really enjoy the “nerdy” posts, because it is an interesting perspective that I almost never see in my regular church, and especially a perspective that resonates with me. I feel more “understood” here than I do with the fellowship groups in my physical church (which is actually a bit of a sad comment, but there it is….).
